When did planning commence for Stages 3 and 4

In December 2013, the NSW Government allocated a further $600,000 to commence planning for the next stages of Dubbo Hospital’s redevelopment to ensure it can meet the needs of the community now and into the future.

On 22 January 2015, Health Minister Skinner and Member for Dubbo Troy Grant announced the NSW Government would commit $150M to deliver Stages 3 and 4 of the redevelopment.

A lead design team has since been appointed and planning is well under way and the schematic design has just been launched.

What will Stages 3 and 4 deliver?

Once complete, Dubbo Hospital Redevelopment Stages 3 and 4 will include:
•    A new Emergency Department and Short Stay Unit
•    A new Inpatient Unit
•    A new Critical Care Floor comprising of:
     -    Coronary Care/ Stroke Unit
     -    Intensive Care Unit
     -    Cardiac Catheter Laboratory
•    A new Renal Dialysis Unit (originally part of Stages 1 and 2 works)
•    A new Ambulatory Care Unit
•    A new Medical Imaging Unit
•    Expansion to oncology
•    A new Front of House entry and drop of zone
•    Upgrade of Women’s and Children’s Community Health; and
•    Additional car parking on campus

Who is managing Stages 3 and 4 of the redevelopment?

Health Infrastructure oversees the planning and delivery of the Dubbo Hospital Redevelopment in close consultation with NSW Health and Western NSW Local Health District.

Savills Australia has been appointed at the project managers and Rice Daubney Architects are designing the redevelopment.

Will there be more parking?

Additional car parking is included in Stages 3 and 4 of the redevelopment and the project team is undertaking a thorough parking assessment to determine the appropriate number of public care spaces

Why wasn't't the expansion of Renal Unit not completed during Stages 1 and 2 of the Dubbo Hospital Redevelopment?

To take advantage of the NSW Government’s further commitment of $150 million for the next stage of the redevelopment, the Renal Unit works will now be delivered at the same time as Stages 3 and 4 of the project.

Including the Renal Unit works in Stages 3 and 4 means that it can be delivered as a new build instead of a refurbishment, which is a great outcome for patients and staff. This decision also means the Renal Unit will be better located with relevant services such as the new Emergency Department and Ambulatory Care Centre, which are also part of Stages 3 and 4.

When will construction start?

Construction of Stages 3 and 4 of the redevelopment will be carefully phased to ensure minimal disruption to patient services.

The first phase of construction is the Inpatient Unit on the second floor of the new clinical services building. Construction will commence in early 2017 following the award of the tender.

What is happening with the new Dubbo Integrated Cancer Centre?

A redevelopment zone has been allocated for an Integrated Cancer Centre in the Master Plan for Stages 3 and 4 of the Dubbo Hospital Redevelopment.

The Western NSW Local Health District has commenced clinical service statement to define the clinical scope for a cancer service. Once the clinical scope is confirmed, user group consultation, facility planning and design processes will follow.

The Oncology Unit expansion, which is included in the scope of Stages 3 and 4, will be reviewed as part of the LHD’s clinical service planning process for the cancer centre.

The delivery of the $150 million Dubbo Hospital Redevelopment Stages 3 and 4 will be phased to ensure minimal impact to patient services.

How much will the cancer centre cost?

Further planning and consultation needs to be undertaken before a total budget can be allocated to the Dubbo Integrated Cancer Centre.

What happens after Schematic Design?

User Groups will soon recommence to determine the detail design for the remaining components of the redevelopment, which is the final component of the planning phase.

The detailed design process determines the layout, colour, fittings, furnishing and equipment of each room and key public spaces and will take several months to complete.

When is Playmates' Cottage and George Hatch being demolished?

Stages 3 and 4 of the redevelopment is being carefully phased to ensure minimal disruption to patient services during construction.

We are currently not in a position to determine the demolition schedule for these buildings.
